Manurewa Kaumātua Matariki Celebration

The theme for this event was Remembrance, honouring Pōhutukawa is the mātāmua of Te Kāhui o Matariki. Through Pōhutukawa, our tūpuna remembered those who have passed on during the year. It is believed that the spirits of the deceased are caught in Te Kupenga o Taramainuku and taken to the underworld in May before they are guided to become stars at the reemergence of Matariki and Pōhutukawa during Te Mātahi o te Tau.
